The strick criterier for admition to the Hall of Fame will ensure that few are inducted, So congradulations to those who have obtained a place in powerlifting history!

Howard Huffman                2008

Brother Bennett award winner

Howard Huffman first lifted in the AAU from 1974 – 1978 while a student at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. He returned to lifting during the mid-1990’s to alleviate some back issues. He went on to revive the AAU in the state of Nebraska in 2004.

Since that time, Nebraska has become one of the top 5 states in terms of AAU powerlifting members along with the reputation for the best run meets in the area. 80 – 100 lifters participate in each of the many meets the Nebraska AAU holds from year to year. Much of this can be attributed to the support, structure and freedom of the national AAU organization. During its evolution, the Nebraska AAU encouraged raw lifting when other organizations were pushing equipped lifting. It also worked with the Special Olympics of Nebraska to provide training, coaching, and assistance for athletes with unique challenges.

Every year, Howard competes in the Nebraska AAU spring meet and coaches a group of powerlifters and collegiate and high school athletes, which included his three sons during their high school careers. Howard competed in the 2009 World Bench/Push Pull meet. In recognition of his development of and commitment to the Nebraska AAU, Howard received the Brother Bennett Award in 2008.
